Israel is known as a Start-Up nation; a Hi-Tech capital with capabilities to compete on international standards, and against some of the world’s leading countries.
Being a world leader in all-things-Hi-Tech means the technology and innovation exist; it means there is drive and there is motivation; it means the level of knowledge and skills is above average. Unfortunately, it does not mean the road to success is easy.
One of the most challenging industries to get into is that of hardware engineering. The standards for becoming an employed hardware engineer are extremely high, and are not directly correlated with actual talent or skills.
Employers in the industry are looking for specific degrees and a minimum average of 85-88. They also require the engineer to receive their degree from particular institutes, specifically:
Tel Aviv University
How to start in the Hardware Engineering industry?
Just like (almost) any other position, it’s incredibly rare to get hired without any experience. But how can you get experience if no one would hire you without experience?
Consider starting out in an indirect way; QA, development, or any other position in the field. That would get your foot in the door; from there establish yourself within the company.
Some companies, such as Intel, Elbit and more, might have student-specific positions. Visit our article on student positions in Hi-Tech (in Hebrew).
Working as a Hardware Engineer
Once you do get your foot in the door, it is one of the most stable industries. In fact, it’s known for being a “dinosaur industry” because, once there, engineers last for many years. There are also different channels to grow, such as infrastructure team leader, project management and more… But at that point, it’s mostly your responsibility to refine your skills and make your way upwards.
When you start working on your CV engineer, remember it’s challenging for everyone in the industry. However, there are ways to get around the difficulties of starting out in the industry. At Marvell, we pride ourselves in working with people who, despite their lack of experience, have the knowledge, skills and talent. If you’re interested in learning more, contact us today.
